[00:00:21] Speaker A: Hey, this is Lacey with Smartcast. And I'm here today with my new friend Patricia, who is the co publisher of Rossbridge magazine. And I had the pleasure of meeting with you a couple of weeks ago, and we are so excited to be contributing to a part of the magazine. We're going to be in the magazine with you guys for at least the next three years.
[00:00:43] Speaker B: Yeah. I'm so excited. And thank you so much for inviting me.
[00:00:46] Speaker A: Yes. I'm so excited to have you on today and kind of tell our listeners about your magazine and what the purpose is behind it and why you guys decided to start this magazine specifically for Ross.
[00:00:58] Speaker B: Yes. So we are.
Kirsten and I, who is my co publisher, are publishers of the Ross Bridge neighbors magazine. This magazine is meant to be a magazine that brings this neighborhood together, like an offline Facebook, someplace where they can share their triumphs and their challenges, their travels.
It's primary to us to bring that neighborhood closer together and to bring premium businesses into the center of that neighborhood.
[00:01:35] Speaker A: Yeah. So I guess if any of you have missed it, we haven't actually officially announced where our location is going to be. We've just said Hoover, so, surprise. It's going to be in Rossbridge. And we could not be more excited to be a part of this community. My mom actually lives in Ross Bread. She's been there for going on almost five years now. She loves the community. She loves working out with her trainer there. She walks to the gym every day. She eats at the restaurants. I just ate at La Paz there yesterday with one of my very good friends and showed him the new spot. We're so excited to be joining in the community and we're excited to be a part of Rossbridge magazine. And I just think that it's gonna be such a great addition to the neighborhood, and we're hoping that our presence there will bring people from all over the city of Hoover into this beautiful, quaint little neighborhood. And they'll eat in the restaurants, and they'll shop in the stores. And we hope to be a great, positive addition to the neighborhood.
[00:02:37] Speaker B: Ross Bridge is an incredible, inclusive, vibrant neighborhood. And this town center, having you move into it with smart skin, Medspa, is going to bring just such a spark, an added spark to that town center. So I'm really excited about seeing you open up.
[00:02:57] Speaker A: Yes. I was just out there yesterday with my mom and one of our designers and one of our contractors, and it's coming along beautifully. We have been repainting, freshening up. We've got custom cabinetry going in. We are really excited about the new and elevated look that we're bringing to the space. It's a small little spot, but I think it's perfect.
We really love the way that we feel like it's going to turn out. We've been working really hard to pick out all of the different aspects, so it's going to be a lot like the smart skin in Homewood. So the look and feel of that location, this is just going to be kind of like a little mini version of that.
[00:03:39] Speaker B: I mean, I want to talk about why I'm so excited that it's smart skin. Yes, I am so excited that it's smart skin, because your level of education and training just is. I think it's world class.
[00:03:52] Speaker A: Thank you.
[00:03:53] Speaker B: And having that quality inside of that neighborhood is. It matches that neighborhood. And it's going to bring more people in to this really quaint spot and, you know, a little bit out of the traffic pattern. Someplace where you can go and you can begin your relaxation and your. And your self care journey as soon as you enter into the Ross Bridge green space.
And, you know, no traffic problem. Right, right. No parking problem.
[00:04:26] Speaker A: Yeah, super easy to find parking. We've been looking for a place to expand our business in the Hoover area for a really long time. And when this opportunity came available, we jumped on it, because my mom, you know, as I said, she lives in Rossbridge. She's been excited about the opportunity to put our business inside of there for a really long time. And so for us to be able to be in this community and offer our services to clients in the Hoover area, I think is going to be huge. We have clients that have been coming to Homewood from Helena, Hoover, Alabaster, that this is going to be a more convenient space for them to be able to travel to.
And then we're going to have a lot of our. We'll have all of our membership services there, and then we'll have several of our deluxe services there as well. And it's going to be our same team. Everybody that you know and love from Homewood, we're gonna be rotating those same estheticians and our doctors into the Hoover location as well. So everybody is way more experienced than the average esthetician in a brand new startup location. So you don't have to worry about it being somebody new. It's gonna be the same staff that have been working with us for years. And like you said, Patricia, we do a lot of continued education and training for our staff. In fact, the space that we're sitting in right now is where we host all of our clinical training with our team and our partners with our medical device companies. They do all of the lunch and learns and trainings and continue education here in the space that we're in right now.
[00:05:57] Speaker B: Well, am I remembering correctly? Did you tell me that you also do training regionally for other professionals?
[00:06:04] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:06:04] Speaker B: You are a center for education.
[00:06:06] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:06:06] Speaker B: That is one of the reasons why I decided that I was going to have a membership at smart skin med spa.
[00:06:11] Speaker A: I know. I'm so glad you decided to sign up. I didn't even know. So I gifted you the certificate to come in and have a facial service. Cause I wanted you to experience a little bit of what we were going to be bringing into Ross Bridge. And then you just now let me know that you signed up for a membership, so.
[00:06:26] Speaker B: Of course I did. Oh, my gosh, it was such a great experience.
[00:06:29] Speaker A: So tell me, the service that you got, I think you said was the elite.
[00:06:32] Speaker B: I got the elite, yes. And thank you very much.
[00:06:35] Speaker A: Yeah, you're welcome.
[00:06:36] Speaker B: And my esthetician was Laura.
[00:06:39] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:06:39] Speaker B: Who was fantastically knowledgeable, wonderful.
[00:06:42] Speaker A: We love her.
[00:06:43] Speaker B: And the thoughtful way. I'm sorry. 61 years old, and I have left my self care, you know, back in my fifties.
[00:06:54] Speaker A: Well, you know, life happens. Life happens, especially with women. I feel like sometimes we have this sense of guilt if we take time for ourselves and do things for self care. And I think it's really empowering and important for us as women to realize that we do have to take care of ourselves first and foremost, so that we can be better for those that need us as well.
[00:07:15] Speaker B: Yeah. That whole idea of filling your own cup is a really big deal. And I had not been filling my cup for a very long time.
I mean, self care for women in my age group means, you know, sitting down on the sofa after you've cleaned up the dinner dishes and painting your own nails. That's how I grew up, you know, and as the daughter of cattle ranchers, my self care routine was extremely abbreviated. So this is a whole. I think this whole affiliation with smart skin and this membership and this ability to start thinking of myself first. A whole new era. I just don't want to understate how important a service like this med spa, like smart skin, or any other endeavor that you do to create a, you know, beneficial results in yourself is.
I think it's gonna expound into my life, that it's gonna unfold in a way that makes the rest of my life better, even maybe more productive.
[00:08:21] Speaker A: Yeah, I think so. And, you know, the whole reasoning behind why my mom even put together the membership program was because she wanted to create a place where women could come and take care of themselves, and we could do it at a price point that they could afford, and we could do it an amount of time that made sense, that didn't take up, you know, a tremendous amount of their. Their day. They can come with a clean face or wash their face here when they get here. And then we spend the entire treatment time on what's going to make a difference in their skin. And while it does feel good and it's nice and relaxing, it's for a purpose, and it's to give a result. And it's to give not only an instant gratification, but a long term result as well. And they can come in every single month, and they can do a treatment that's going to best benefit their skin, and their esthetician is going to help guide them and what they need to be doing based on what their goals are and what they want to achieve. And then they're making it really super simple for them to be able to come in and know and trust that the person that's working on their skin is doing something that's gonna benefit them in the best way possible. So they have that recommendation, and they have them follow up with their next appointment based on the service they recommend that they do the next month.
[00:09:26] Speaker B: Yeah, that was something that was really unusual. So we started a whole conversation about mapping out how we're gonna go into the future. And I'm all about, I will jump into the void like, okay, I'm in it now. Let's just start with injections. Let's get it done. Can we have it done in two weeks? Right, right.
[00:09:43] Speaker A: That's how quickly we want it.
[00:09:44] Speaker B: Now can I just go into the next room and can you just finish up? But Laura was like, whoa, wait. Let's learn about your skin. Let's learn about what works. Let's learn about what doesn't work. You're not gonna be the same as everyone else.
[00:09:59] Speaker A: Right?
[00:09:59] Speaker B: Let's get this right. And this is how. And she slowed me down and said, we got you. Yeah, we got you.
[00:10:08] Speaker A: That's great. I love that. And she's so right, too. I mean, there's so many people that are like, well, my girlfriend comes here and she gets this, this. So that's what I want to get. And everybody's skin is different, and everybody's goals are different, and everybody's budget is different. Everybody's timeline is different. And so it's really important that we take that time to really manage expectations and help create a plan for each individual patient and help them to achieve what it is that they're wanting to work at and looking at their skin and saying, what is it that you see? What do you love the most about your skin? And these are some things that we can do to enhance those even more. So I think that, you know, especially as young people, they look at their skin and they have, like, they'll be like, oh, it's a new insecurity unlocked, and it doesn't need to be that way. You need to look at your skin and say, what do I love about myself? And then say, how can I enhance those things? And that's what we hope to do here for all of our patients from, you know, as young as 13 with, you know, teen hormonal acne and things like that, all the way up into their eighties and nineties for maintaining and anti aging treatments and just helping them to feel their very best every single day.
[00:11:15] Speaker B: Yeah. It was so. It was so uplifting, and it was, it take. It took a certain.
I'm a fairly powerful human being.
[00:11:24] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:11:24] Speaker B: So to sit in front of me for the first time and look me in the eyes and say, whoa, slow down. That's like, that's courage born of confidence, you know?
[00:11:37] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:11:37] Speaker B: Cause I'm like a raging bull.
[00:11:39] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:11:40] Speaker B: And so, and I read that confidence into what she was saying to me, and her confidence allowed me to put my own expectations on the back burner and to put my faith in her.
[00:11:55] Speaker A: Yeah. Well, and I think that's one of the huge benefits that our staff are so well trained is that no matter who they're seeing or what their problems are that they're coming here to address or what they're trying to maintain, our staff have the confidence to guide them in a way that's going to best suit them. And they, they don't get intimidated or nervous about it because they are very empowered.
[00:12:20] Speaker B: You actually approached me about the magazine, and before I called you back, I did research because I'm incredibly selective.
[00:12:28] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:12:29] Speaker B: As you should be about the people that I will have in the middle of this community.
So after finding out the quality of the work that you do here and going through all the reviews, all the things, it was a pleasure to sit down and talk to you about how you want to convey that sort of expertise into that neighborhood and the kind of information that you want to give people just to better their lives. I think being an expert contributor in this magazine is an incredibly generous give to the neighborhood. What you're saying is I'm going to give to you all, free of charge, all the information.
We want you to be educated.
[00:13:13] Speaker A: Right.
[00:13:13] Speaker B: And then on the back end, if we can help you, then we're right here in your neighborhood.
[00:13:20] Speaker A: Right. Well, I mean, and that's exactly what we do when we go and speak at these conferences with our website company. They do a free of charge educational conference once a quarter. And I went to Nashville last time. It's in Kansas City a lot. And there are providers from all over the country that we're educating, and there are physicians that are in other specialties that are making their way into medical aesthetics. They're mid level providers that are opening up their own practices and they just don't know what they don't know yet. And so we feel like it's our duty to help guide them and give them advice and help them to not make the mistakes that we had to learn the hard way. And I think that there's enough room in this industry for everybody to do what they're passionate about and what they want to do. I just want to see them do it well. And so I just feel like it's better for me to help them do it the right way than for them to do it the wrong way. And it gives our industry a bad look and a bad name, and I want everybody to be successful.
[00:14:23] Speaker B: Yeah. And I think that is, that is a solid business plan. It's a great way to live your life. Yeah, but it's a solid business plan. You know, it's the people who give back. Now that I think that, that our consumers are focused on, you know, I think we're incredibly conscious now of people who do business just to make money and that now we've become savvy enough as consumers to pick those people out and sort of eliminate them from our, from our, from our list, you know, our short list. And we're really looking for people who contribute positively to the community and the world around them.
[00:15:03] Speaker A: Well, one of my good friends who does our marketing, I shared with you a little bit about him. But Henry Block was his mentor. And when Henry first started mentoring him, he had originally asked mister block for money. And he was like, I'm not going to give you my money, but what I will give you is my knowledge. And he said, and after I give you this knowledge, if you don't share your knowledge with others, then I have no respect for you. And so he took that very seriously. And so now, even to this day, he continues to give his knowledge out for free because that's the most valuable thing you can give anybody.
[00:15:44] Speaker B: It's a new world where we fill our own cups and we fill the cups of others.
[00:15:49] Speaker A: Well, I mean, I think it makes me feel good to be able to share that knowledge and expertise with people. And knowing that I added value to their lives is important to me, and that makes me feel better.
[00:16:01] Speaker B: So that's a wonderful hire. Why? I love that. That's how you live your life.
[00:16:05] Speaker A: Yeah. I think it's really important to be able to educate people. And if they. I mean, it's so hard to find good education these days, too, especially with theirs. It's so diluted, like TikTok and Instagram. And if you Google and you can get a million different answers to the same question, depends on who you ask. And so it really is very difficult to determine these days who to listen to and who not to listen to and what's legitimate and what's not. So I want to be a source of truth for people to be able to learn from us and the education that we're offering to clients, regardless of, you know, no matter what, I want them to know that they can come to us and we can give them our true, honest feedback and what's right and what's wrong for their skin and for their goals and what they're wanting to achieve.
[00:16:57] Speaker B: That's perfect.
[00:16:58] Speaker A: So, but so tell me, what is to come with the magazine? Anything new? And do you guys cover any other neighborhoods?
[00:17:08] Speaker B: We have other magazines that cover. So the mag. Our business model is to connect businesses with high value homeowners.
So if that is your. If that is your demographic, then we offer a very effective form of branding inside of high value neighborhoods. So we know we're in Ross Bridge, right. We're also in Greystone, Donovan Valley, Vestavia, and Chelsea. Right now we're working on opening up other magazines in Homewood and Vestavia. And just the. So I'm looking forward to the effect of bringing those neighborhoods closer together and allowing them to learn that this great platform, this great offline platform is a true time capsule and, you know, memory book for their lives inside of the neighborhoods that they love.
[00:18:09] Speaker A: Yeah, we'll definitely come to Homewood.
We'll be your first people in the Homewood magazine. So let us know whenever you come to Homewood.
[00:18:24] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:18:25] Speaker A: And for any of our listeners of this episode, if you would like to get your elite facial, we will give you 20% off of a single visit treatment anytime now through the end of this month.
[00:18:41] Speaker B: Oh, do it, do it, do it was fabulous.
[00:18:43] Speaker A: Yes. And definitely sign up for the membership. And the good thing about the membership, too, is that you can go to either location as a member. You can go to Homewood or to Ross. So you've got more options now with your membership as well.
[00:18:55] Speaker B: You'll see me there. Yes.
[00:18:57] Speaker A: Well, thank you so much for joining us today. And I know that we'll be talking a lot over the next couple of years. Yes. So I just have really enjoyed getting to know you better, and I'm so glad you signed up for the membership. So now I get to see you even more.
[00:19:12] Speaker B: Thank you so much. Lacy, thank you so much for the complimentary facial. It was amazing. And thank you for, gosh, thank you for just the association is everything.
[00:19:25] Speaker A: You're welcome. Thank you. Thank you for joining us on today's episode of Smartcast. And we'll see you next week.
