[00:00:21] Speaker A: Hey, this is Lacey with Smartcast, and I have Liz, one of my precious little front desk coordinators, here with me today. We got the opportunity to spend the day with our friends at school, skin Medica, yesterday for the Skinmedica seminar alongside all three of our injectors. So that was super fun. Thank you for coming on today, Liz. [00:00:41] Speaker B: Of course, thank you for having me. [00:00:43] Speaker A: So Liz is one of our newer patient coordinators at Smartskin. So she was able to come spend the day and learn everything about skin Medica and the science behind it and how to position it within your skincare services and just do a really good deep dive into the formulations and everything. So tell me some of your key takeaways from yesterday. [00:01:05] Speaker B: Yeah, so I'm very green to all of this, so all of it was super new to me. I tried to go in like a little sponge and just absorb it all. I think the biggest thing that kind of shocked me, honestly, was I think it said something like 80% of women use skincare regularly, but only 8% use professional grade, like medical grade skincare. I thought that was kind of wild. [00:01:28] Speaker A: Yeah. All of the statistics were really eye opening and I was so glad, too that our injectors were there and they were able to kind of, like, see how much science is poured into skin medica and just even the final formulation, and not just making claims on specific ingredients that are in there, but the actual end result, final formulation, clinical studies and white papers on these skincare products. And then not only just sitting back and saying, hey, we nailed it, and, like, we're good now. They're constantly reevaluating their I, their product line. For example, we got to learn all about the new formulation of ha five that's going to release here soon. And we got to test that out and try it and see, like, some of the improvements that they've made within this formulation. And the original ha five was great, but they just went in and made it that much better. So tell me, what were some of your takeaways on the new Ha five formulation? [00:02:23] Speaker B: First of all, I love the way it feels. [00:02:25] Speaker A: Yes. [00:02:26] Speaker B: Like, it just felt so good. Like, it literally just turned into, like, I don't know, just, like, smoothed in so beautifully. I really liked that they, you know, like you said, it made it even better and now they said that it's giving you 48 hours of hydration instead of 24 with their previous one. Yeah, yeah. [00:02:47] Speaker A: And then they said something like, the clinical studies showed that patients felt as though they looked three years younger after twelve weeks. Weeks of use. [00:02:57] Speaker B: That's crazy. [00:02:58] Speaker A: And then with the TNS, they felt six years younger after twelve weeks of use. [00:03:02] Speaker B: See, and I didn't even know that and I thought that was amazing. Yes, I love that. [00:03:06] Speaker A: Yeah. So, you know, they've reformulated litera a few times. They had the original litera, litera 2.0, and then this past year they launched the even and correct system that has the even and correct serum, the spot treatment, the pill pads, and it's just like each innovation of it just gets that much better. So I love that they're never settled. They're always like looking to recreate and rebrand and make themselves even better. And they're their own competition, so I love that. And they're also from the makers of Botox. So imagine all of the R and D, that's all in one, like, home. So you have like all of these really great resources right at your fingertips. [00:03:50] Speaker B: Yeah, no, I love it. I also picked up that they said that they have the most clinical studies out of all of the medical skincare brands. And I thought that was amazing. [00:04:00] Speaker A: Yeah, the proof is in the pudding. So they're not just making claims, they're actually having to prove that what they say actually is happening. And so there's a lot of over the counter skincare products that are not cheap, like La Mer and some of the others that don't have any of these scientific studies to back up their claims. And they're just, they're kind of like vitamins, you know, like they, they're like, here, you can take this. But they don't actually have to prove it right to where skin medica is because they're part of pharma. They have to prove what they, their claims and that they actually do work. And so I think that that's really incredible, especially for us as professionals. And we, so we spend so much time and effort in our continued education and learning all the ingredients and what's going to work best with everybody's skin. And for us to have skincare products like skin medica that we can feel really confident in our recommendations and saying that they're going to do what they say they're going to do because they have tons and tons of studies and research that proves that they do. [00:05:04] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. And my mom was telling me, she was like, I don't see that there's a difference between, you know, sephora skincare versus medical. And I said, oh, there's a big difference. There's a big difference. [00:05:16] Speaker A: Yeah. And then they were shown too, the studies of women that want a skincare recommendation from their professional when they go and get facial services done, and what percentage actually will purchase after they've made that recommendation. And how many of those people will go and purchase somewhere else within 24 hours if you don't make that recommendation? And so what that tells me is that these patients want at home skincare, and they're gonna buy it from somewhere. And if you don't give them your expert opinion on what they need to be using on their skin, they're gonna be spending just as much, if not more, on something else. That's not gonna give them the clinical outcomes that our skincare products do. [00:05:56] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:05:57] Speaker A: So I think that's really important, and it gives us a lot of credibility in the. And the recommendations that we're making. [00:06:04] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. I was kind of amazed with all the statistics that they had and how high everything was, and I never really thought about how many people actually really do want that recommendation at the end of their service. They're like, no, I want someone to tell me what I want to put on my face. What's the right thing to put on my face? How should I do this? It was just really eye opening, like, learning about all of that. [00:06:28] Speaker A: I know. And one thing that the speaker said at one point was like, if I went to my hairstylist and I wanted to get extensions, and my hair technician only recommended to me the lowest quality extension that she had, I would be offended. Like, I want to know what's the best of the best, what are my options? And then let me choose for myself what I want to invest in. So that was pretty eye opening to me. And then another thing that I heard yesterday that was really kind of a neat analogy specifically for, like, ha's and moisturizers. And they were saying the ha, a moisturizer is like getting in the water, and an ha is like drinking the water. [00:07:11] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:07:12] Speaker A: And so I thought that was really neat because you need to hydrate from the inside out and then lock it in with your moisturizer. So I thought that was a really interesting way to be able to make it make sense to our patients and what each one of those are doing, because I think there's a lot of misconception on Ha's and what it does and why you need it and what makes, for example, skin medica, ha collagen infusion, different than your standard ha that you can get, you know, at Walgreens or Sephora or wherever. So the ha five from skinmedica is five forms of hyaluronic acid. So it's going to be able to address all different pathways and all depths of the skin so that you get a long lasting hydration. And then this one, they actually did the studies. They made somebody not wash their face for 48 hours to prove that it had lasting moisturizing effects for the full 48 hours. So I thought that was really neat. [00:08:11] Speaker B: That was really interesting. [00:08:13] Speaker A: What else did you like from yesterday that you learned that maybe you didn't realize? [00:08:20] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, just, I really, I mean, I was. I'm still, like, learning about skin medica products, you know, as I work here longer. The six years younger from the TNS was kind of shocking for me. And, like, the fact that you only see, you start seeing results in two weeks was wild. Cause I feel like a lot of products, they kind of take a minute to, like, start kicking in and working. Like, you start seeing results. And I just thought that was pretty amazing that, you know, it only takes like, two weeks. [00:08:49] Speaker A: Yeah. And what I didn't know, and now, I guess, because exosomes are such a big thing, our TNSA plus has over 300 times exosomes in it than a standard exosome does. That's crazy. [00:09:02] Speaker B: It's wild. [00:09:04] Speaker A: So I think that that is really interesting, and I can't wait. They're working on some more studies right now. I really want to, like, take a deep dive into the exosomes of TNS. It is, of course, human derived versus the XOE that we offer at smart skin is, of course, a plant derived exosome. But exosomes are an envelope, basically. It's a vehicle to carry in whatever message you want it to send. And the exosomes that we use here at smart skin are delivering the message of anti inflammation, specifically with the XoE when we're using it in conjunction with the microneedling for the luminous or the skin pen or the scarlet. And so what it's doing is it's controlling that inflammation and allowing only the inflammation that's going to benefit the skin, and that's eliminating any additional inflammation that's only going to irritate and cause any intolerability to the treatment. So it's just going to help with the overall end result, and it's going to help speed along the recovery process. So I think that's really interesting. [00:10:05] Speaker B: I've really grown to love skemedica a lot. Like, it's become one of my favorites. [00:10:10] Speaker A: One of your go tos? [00:10:11] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. [00:10:12] Speaker A: So what about poor clarifying, poor purifying? What are you seeing with that, with our patients. [00:10:16] Speaker B: So far, everybody loves it. I know everyone at work loves it. I love it. I started using the acne treatment myself, the serum, and I've been noticing a huge difference, especially with my hormonal acne and that journey that I'm on, and. [00:10:36] Speaker A: I love it because acne is not just in teenagers. We see a lot of adult acne. So this being so easily tolerable, too, you can use it every day, morning and night. It's not going to irritate your skin. My oldest daughter has perioral dermatitis, so she's very limited on the things that she can use that aren't going to irritate her skin or can possibly cause her to have a flare up of that, and she can tolerate this very easily. I love that their studies are showing a reduction in acne, as well as pih and redness and inflammation in the skin as early as 48 hours. [00:11:13] Speaker B: Yeah, I was really shocked by that. [00:11:15] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:11:16] Speaker B: I mean, I noticed it myself, but part of me was like, oh, it's just me. And then learning about it yesterday, I was like, oh, wow, that's kind of insane how quickly that works. [00:11:24] Speaker A: Yeah, I love it. It's got niacinamide in it and it's super soothing to the skin, so I think it's great. I love it. I love the diamond glow serum that pairs along with it, especially for congestion and blackheads. Like, that is just a winning combination if you're struggling with teen acne or adult acne. That diamond glow with the acne clarifying or pore clarifying serum and then the take home cleanser and serum, it just makes such a huge impact in it. [00:11:54] Speaker B: Yeah, it's a game changer, for sure. [00:11:56] Speaker A: And remind me, like, I'm having kind of a little mental block. They were going over the even incorrect system and they were saying, if you use one of the products, you see results in as early as a certain amount of time, or if you're using all three, you're seeing results in an even faster amount of time. [00:12:15] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:12:16] Speaker A: Do you remember what that statistic was? [00:12:19] Speaker B: Part of me wants to say two weeks, but I feel like it's even less than that. And I can't remember on the top. [00:12:25] Speaker A: Of my head, it was like maybe two weeks on its own and one week all three together. I think that's what it was. [00:12:31] Speaker B: Yeah. Which is. [00:12:33] Speaker A: That's crazy. [00:12:34] Speaker B: Yeah. I'm just so shocked how quickly skin medica products, like, how fast acting they really are. I mean, it's kind of unheard of. I feel like for most skincare products. [00:12:44] Speaker A: Especially, like, an amelanin inhibitor product that's working on sun damage, hyperpigmentation, melasma. Of course, they don't do studies during pregnancy, but there's nothing in it that's not safe to use while pregnant. Doctor Jody even spoke up at the conference yesterday and mentioned that she was using the evenincorrect while she was pregnant. Her melasma was getting better. Her skin looks amazing right now. She did a diamond glow, laser genesis and skin pen, I think, like, last week, and her skin looks amazing. [00:13:19] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:13:19] Speaker A: So good. [00:13:20] Speaker B: Looks really good. [00:13:21] Speaker A: She's having her little post baby glow up. [00:13:23] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:13:24] Speaker A: I was so proud of the doctors too. Doctor Eason spoke up. What did. What was it that she was talking about? [00:13:31] Speaker B: I think she was talking about TNS. [00:13:33] Speaker A: Yeah, she wanted TNS, and then doctor Jody spoke up at one point and wanted TNS. And then, of course, we all got to try the collagen infusion. The new one, which we're super excited about. The original formulation is going to be around for about a year. So for people that really like the original formulation of Ha five, you can still get it for the next year or so, but there's going to be a lot of people that are going to be super excited about the new formulation because it doesn't have that peeling that sometimes people were experiencing with the original formulation, and it does not have. Why am I going blank on the ingredient that's in it? Silicone. [00:14:20] Speaker B: It doesn't have silicone. [00:14:21] Speaker A: Yeah. Silicone free. So I think that's really beneficial. [00:14:26] Speaker B: Yeah, I really enjoyed it a lot. [00:14:29] Speaker A: It feels so nice. [00:14:30] Speaker B: I'm very excited to try it. [00:14:31] Speaker A: And I told Jessica, our rep, that I noticed when I put it on my lips that it makes them, like, super rosy pink. Ooh. [00:14:38] Speaker B: I never even thought about it, but. [00:14:39] Speaker A: Of course, they were, like, putting it on their lips, and they were like, I noticed that too. And I was like, okay, so now we need a reform related lip. And I said, we don't want, necessarily the plumping, but we want you to reformulate it with the new ha and make it a balm. Make it a treatment. I was like, that's what the people want. That's what we need. [00:14:57] Speaker B: Still on the lookout for, like, the holy grail lip balm. [00:15:00] Speaker A: I know, I know. We used to have a really great one, and the company that we used closed after Covid, and I just haven't found anything since then that I like quite as much. [00:15:11] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:15:12] Speaker A: So I have like, 50 bazillion lip products. [00:15:14] Speaker B: Yeah, same. Absolutely. [00:15:16] Speaker A: So, when I, Emily, and I are gonna get to go to Irvine, California, in September and go to the lab where they make tns and we get to put on, like, the lab coats and the goggles, and we get to be super science y, hot nerds and watch where they make this all happen. But the thing that I'm most excited about, and one of the things that I really appreciate about skinmedica is that I'll be in front of people that I get to give them my honest feedback, like, what do we want? What do we not like? What changes would we like to see? What kind of things we would like to see them do or improve or add into or get rid of in Allie. So I've been making my list. Cause I have lots of ideas, and they're super excited to put me in front of them because they know that I won't hold back. [00:16:01] Speaker B: Right. [00:16:02] Speaker A: They're like, no, don't hold back. And I was like, do you know me at all? [00:16:06] Speaker B: You don't have to say that. I got it. [00:16:07] Speaker A: So I'm really excited. There's some things that I think that they could really have some extensions on, for sure. Like, I think it would be so cool to do a new ha collagen infusions sheet mask. I think it would be super cool to do a pore purifying sheet mask, because my middle daughter's playing volleyball, and so she's had a little bit of bacterial acne from that, and I had her do, like, a little detox charcoal mask the other night, and it helped a lot. But I was like, I wish I had, like, a sheet mask that had the same ingredients as the pore purifying cleanser and serum and diamond glow, because they. [00:16:46] Speaker B: They don't have sheet masks right now, do they? [00:16:48] Speaker A: Don't. Yeah. And she was like, well, for now, you can use the back bar pore purifying mask. And I was like, okay, cool, but I want that sheet mask. [00:16:56] Speaker B: Yeah. You're like, but I want a sheet mask. [00:16:58] Speaker A: No, I want it to be in a different vehicle. So put it in a sheet mask. It'd be cool, too, if it was, like, would, like, be biodegradable to her. Like, absorb into the skin. That would be something that would be very interesting. Yeah, I like it. [00:17:14] Speaker B: It's an unlocked market. [00:17:16] Speaker A: I know. So many possibilities. My brain just starts, like, spinning around. [00:17:20] Speaker B: You need to be on the schematica marketing team. [00:17:22] Speaker A: Well, I tell them all the time, like, you know, you could just put me on your board. [00:17:25] Speaker B: Right. Just make it easy. [00:17:26] Speaker A: Just make it easy. Give me a direct line to the people. I'll tell them what I want them to make, and then they make it. [00:17:32] Speaker B: Exactly. Here you go. Problem solved. [00:17:34] Speaker A: So at the dinner last night, me and Doctor Irma and Doctor Jody got to attend that, and they had their science liaison there. And so I was telling him, like, I was trying to pick his brain on what was coming down the pipelines. He was very hush hush. [00:17:50] Speaker B: Ooh, secretive. [00:17:51] Speaker A: I know. I was like, sir, you can tell me more information. [00:17:56] Speaker B: Was that the same guy that we met at lunche? [00:18:00] Speaker A: Yeah, he was at. He stayed for the entire seminar, and then he was at the dinner. And he was a presenter at the dinner last night, which was really cool because it gave our physicians and the other practice owners that were there last night to be able to pick his brain and ask any questions that they have. Ask him any comparable questions based on, like, any other products and the technology that they have, and how does it compete against the products that they have? What are the differentiating factors between them? So I think it's really great that we have that connection to where we can reach out to him at any time. And they gave us his contact information. So if we have any questions about formulations or ingredients or anything like that, he's the guy to ask because he's the one who helps put it all together. And they were funny. They said he has more degrees than a thermometer does. So I was like, look, Emily, somebody's got your beads. [00:18:51] Speaker B: Right? Well, it's so nice that, like, you have access to that. It's not very often where you can ask someone directly who's there behind the scenes. [00:19:00] Speaker A: Yeah, it's always a lot of red tape, and it's a lot of, like, waiting to find out the answers to where we can just contact him directly. [00:19:09] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:19:10] Speaker A: Which is great. [00:19:11] Speaker B: Yeah. Amazing. [00:19:12] Speaker A: So. But we're really excited about all the things to come with skinmedica. They definitely aren't a sleepy brand. They're always on the cutting edge. They're always looking to grow and expand and do as much as they can. They're doing the most. [00:19:27] Speaker B: Oh, for sure. [00:19:30] Speaker A: They're very great partners, and we're very thankful for them. And I love that we have the ability to have the rewards programs for our patients. We still have the $50 off rewards for the original formulation of h eight five as well as even incorrect. So I love that they're always giving our patients opportunities to experience new extensions within the line, we have alley flash. So when you come into the office, scan your QR code for your smart skin VIP rewards. Scan your QR code for aliflash because you might just have a reward for Botox or Latisse or skincare or juvederm collection of fillers. So there's always an opportunity to experience something new. And I love that they're able to kind of collaborate together and allow for our patients to experience all of those different things. [00:20:20] Speaker B: Yeah. And honestly, Alley's the best rewards program out there because it's amazing. Like every 100 points, it's like, what? $10? That's kind of unheard of for a lot of rewards. [00:20:32] Speaker A: I mean, to do a diamond glow, they get a $15 reward to put towards their next Allergan family of anything. So they'll have $15 they can put towards their next skin medica product or another diamond glow or juvederm or, or Botox. And then now they've just released the cherry financing. So if they want to do, you know, full correction of Botox and Juvederm fillers, they can actually finance that through cherry. And it's six months interest free. So it's super easy. It's all done through the Alley app. It's available now at smart skin. It's really going to be huge for people to be able to do the things that they want and be able to budget it out to where they can pay gradually. And that way it just kind of helps allow for them to do the things that they want to do within their budgets. So I think that it's really great too, especially people that do get the TNS or ha five or even a correct or things like that on a consistent basis. They also have brilliant connections, which is our online ordering platform. If they sign up for the subscription, they get 20% off every single order it ships for free to their house. They still get their alley points and a lot of times they'll get a free gift with purchase. [00:21:50] Speaker B: That's lovely. [00:21:51] Speaker A: And it's not a commitment. They can cancel it or pause it at any time, and then we can help them sign up for it at smart scan too, if they need some help. But it's the same password, username and password as their alley. They just sign on. They can subscribe to those 3060 or 90 days, and then they can pause it or cancel it at any time. [00:22:13] Speaker B: My little hermit heart loves that. [00:22:15] Speaker A: I know. Well, especially like a lot of our clients travel sometimes, and so, like, some of them live here, part of the year and somewhere else part of the year. And so they can ship it to wherever they are, and they'll have it in two days and they get their 20% off. They don't have to, like, bargain hunt anymore. They can get it every time. [00:22:34] Speaker B: It's amazing. I love that. [00:22:36] Speaker A: I love it, too. Any final thoughts on yesterday's seminar? Anything that you want to learn more about or anything that, like, you just kind of got, like, a little taste of it and now you're like, I need to know more. [00:22:52] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, I really. Skin medica has kind of taken my heart. I really do enjoy their products, and I love how well they take care of us and, like, all the education that they provide. Definitely all the food was good. There were so many snacks. [00:23:07] Speaker A: Yes. They did do a great job on the snacks yesterday. Oh, yeah. [00:23:10] Speaker B: I was a little amazed. [00:23:12] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:23:12] Speaker B: Did not go hungry, but it was great. Yeah, it was just nice to, like, see other people that were also, you know, in the field and get my hands sent on more skin medica products. And I'm just excited to, like, learn more. [00:23:24] Speaker A: Yeah, it's super interactive. I love the little quizzical game. Oh, yes, that we did. Although my mom got in trouble because she distracted me at the end and maybe not answered the last three questions, even though I had gotten every single one of them correct. So I didn't get to be on the leaderboard, and that broke my heart. But I'll forgive her this time. [00:23:42] Speaker B: Our team still won. Thankfully, we did. [00:23:44] Speaker A: Yeah. So they broke us into two teams, a pink team and a white team. And there were probably 20 tables, and ten of us were white tables, and ten of us were pink tables, and our table was white, and we won. Overall, however, I would have been on the leaderboard, and I would have gotten a prize. I don't care about the prize, but I do like to win. [00:24:03] Speaker B: Oh, absolutely. [00:24:04] Speaker A: So I'm just a little bit competitive. [00:24:07] Speaker B: It was fine. [00:24:08] Speaker A: But. But anyways. Well, I'm so excited that you got to go and learn with us yesterday, and I'm so excited that our injectors got to go and learn. They don't always get the opportunity to learn about skincare as much as they do injectables and techniques for injections. But I think that this was a really great opportunity for them to see just how much science is packed into the skincare line and that it is from the makers of Botox and juvederm. So I think that at the end of the day, if their patients are on a great skincare regimen at home. It's only going to elevate the results that they're getting with them, and it's going to make them a lot happier patients in the long run. [00:24:42] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. [00:24:43] Speaker A: So. But we're really appreciative to our partners at Skinmedica, and we really appreciate them taking their day to pour into us and educate our staff and make it fun and exciting. And sometimes they can be kind of boring. And they made a lot of fun interactive, and I think it was definitely a day well spent. [00:25:05] Speaker B: Yeah. So much fun. [00:25:06] Speaker A: Yes. Well, thank you for joining us on today's episode of Smartcast, and we'll see you next week.
