[00:00:21] Speaker A: Hey, this is Lacey with Smartcast, and I'm joined today with Peyton. She and I just got back from a medical conference called. Called scale that's held in Nashville every year. This was my third year in attendance and patents first, which I'm so excited she got to be a part of that because, as our ma, she was able to learn so many tips and tricks for injectables and semi glutide and how it all ties in together with our skincare and our facial services. So, Peyton, thank you for being here with me today.
[00:00:46] Speaker B: Absolutely. Can't wait to talk about what we learned.
[00:00:49] Speaker A: So we were there from all day Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and then half a day on Sunday. And it was so much information. It was like information overload, but all good stuff.
[00:01:01] Speaker B: Yeah.
I was mainly interested in learning more about the vascular occlusions. And if we had anything like that that happened, we know exactly how to treat the person.
[00:01:14] Speaker A: Yeah, there's been a lot of information over the years about vascular occlusions and hypothesis on how you could potentially, you know, address some of these concerns. So it's really nice to see after some time now, they've really nailed down some proven things that are able to address those concerns because it's just really not a safe idea to be treating anybody without knowing how to address those complications. So it's really nice to have even more tips and tricks in the toolbox on how to avoid, but also how to treat anything that could potentially happen.
So, tell me, what was something that, like, just really stood out to you during the course of those several days that we were there?
[00:01:59] Speaker B: I thought it was very interesting of how they are coming out with studies on the non ablative lasers preventing skin cancers in the near future and chemical pills, too.
[00:02:11] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:02:11] Speaker B: Yeah, I think that that's a great thing, especially for people who have had skin issues in their past.
Another thing that I found interesting was different dilutions of toxins for the longer duration of toxin. It's dilutions that we've never done, but, yeah, I think would be good to try.
[00:02:36] Speaker A: I think that that's all really great, too. And especially, I feel like Daxify kind of paved the way in that mindset of doing a longer lasting toxin. And now that they've kind of seen some resistance to Botox and some of the other toxins, that they're really moving more into that, to doing the dose equals duration and treating for longer periods of time to prevent that from happening. So it's really good to see some of the other companies getting on board with that forward thinking and doing longer lasting toxin versus the every three to four months too.
I think that's going to be really helpful for patients moving forward.
[00:03:15] Speaker B: I think it'll be nice that they won't just have one particular toxin to choose from as far as duration goes.
[00:03:20] Speaker A: Yeah. And lots of talk about the caja, the radiesse. Radiesse hyper dilute, some different treatments that we can do with that. So I thought that was really fun and interesting to learn about that. And integrating that in with the ha fillers, too.
[00:03:34] Speaker B: Yeah. And also them talking about the biostimulatories with the liquid bbls. You know, we've already been doing those for several months, but it was nice to see that there's other injectors doing it and also different dilutions for that as well to help make it last a little bit longer and, like, different.
[00:03:55] Speaker A: Placement to achieve different results in the way that, like, depending on what shape you're trying to achieve, you can put different amounts in different areas to achieve whatever specific shape you're looking for. So they're kind of looking at the booty kind of like they do the lips now.
[00:04:10] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:04:10] Speaker A: To where you can shape and make things the way that you want it to be. That was another thing that I really liked about the talks, too, is they were talking a lot about the lips and just the overall beauty aesthetic and where it's going, and that people are getting more into a natural look. And I think that that is going to, in the long run, make patients a lot happier with their outcomes, too.
[00:04:34] Speaker B: Yeah. With the lips. There was a technique that they had discussed during one of the panels that I thought was interesting, with injecting a certain pound of MLS into the cupid's peak to lift the cupid's bow, you know, just to give you a little bit bigger of a pouty look if you wanted that look that you were going for. I've never actually seen that particular part done, but I thought that that was interesting.
[00:04:57] Speaker A: Yeah. You know, I just think that it's really important. And this is why we do so much continued education with our staff and with our injectors, because, you know, we're in a room filled with dermatologists and plastic surgeons and estheticians and pas and NP's and we're all in here together learning new techniques and we're all like figuring these things out and just improving upon the processes. And it's not that anybody has ever done anything wrong. It's just that we found newer and better ways to do things. And so that's why it's so important that we stay on top of these new technologies and new trends and new things that they're learning along the way so that we can continue to grow and evolve in this industry.
So I think two, one of the fun things that I think that you get to be a part of or see, especially since there's so many people getting toxin, everybody's muscles are different or their, you know, makeup of the way that their bodies is different. And so sometimes you're going to run into different, like, minor toxin complications with, like, say, a little bit of a drop tail or a little bit of a crease or whatever in different areas that you can treat with toxin, different ways that you can treat with toxin, and how to correct any issues that you might have with the toxin treatment. Kind of not doing exactly the way that you wanted it to do, but how to go back in and kind of tweak that and make it symmetrical. And our faces aren't symmetrical anyways, but you can kind of make some adjustments in someone's natural appearance by doing a few little tweaks with toxin. So I think it's kind of neat how you can shape the face and create balance and symmetry. And it really is all artwork, like injectables altogether with toxin, ha fillers and bio stimp skincare products and energy based devices. I mean, it's all form of artwork.
[00:06:50] Speaker B: So you definitely have to have an eye for it.
[00:06:52] Speaker A: Mm hmm. Yeah. So there was a lot of information on injectables this year. Lots of information on energy based devices. Radio frequency, micro needling. Micro needling with radio frequency. And a lot of that, for me, is just validation that we're on the right track and that we're doing good things and that we have the relevant equipment that we need to give our patients everything that they want to achieve.
And so that was really inspiring to be able to see that and hear that and know that they called out by name the majority of the pieces of equipment that we have.
[00:07:29] Speaker B: I thought it was also interesting, too, or nice to learn more about the business side of the medical field as well, and aesthetics. They went over a lot of different things.
[00:07:45] Speaker A: Yeah. Like, on the last day, especially, they did a lot more of the business side of stuff.
We got to learn about different things that they're seeing across the industry in the US and Canada and kind of the trends and the way that the market has worked over the past couple of years and just kind of where everybody's at in the industry as a whole. We also got to do some different side talk tracks in different areas that were not part of the continued education because the CE hours are available through this course because it's all non biased. But then there's some sponsored events that you can pop into along the way as well, if you'd like to. And one of those talks was meeting with the CEO. So there were, I think, five or six different CEO's that were on the panel discussing different things within the industry and how their company views it and how they're addressing different things. And that was fun. And then they also had the skin better talk that was going over. Maestro. So tell me a little bit about what you learned from Maestro, because I know you told me you were excited to learn some new things about that skincare product that you didn't know before.
[00:08:56] Speaker B: So the maestro, they were basically calling it the IPO in the bottle on the panel, and that you can use it towards all skin types, which is also very nice, especially for people who have, like, acne problems, which is something I have had in the past. But, you know, it helps with dullness and the texture, pore sizes, redness, you can see results in little as two weeks. You can pair it with pretty much any type of skincare product, and you use it twice daily.
[00:09:28] Speaker A: Yeah. And we're actually in the middle of a clinical study with Maestro and Triolux right now. We have, I think, four patients the middle of this study, and they pre treated their skin with these two products two weeks beforehand. And then each of them are doing a different treatment series with it. And then we're doing follow up photos in the middle of that series, and then we'll do it again at the end and just so show the difference in their skin quality from using these two products to pre treat and treat during and treat after. And I know that McKenzie's mom is a part of the study, and she can already see it, reduction in her redness just with a pre treat of the maestro and trio luxe alone.
[00:10:07] Speaker B: Mm hmm. I know with. I know also they use, like, different examples as far as, like, if you wanted to reduce the pore size, you know, there's a certain regimen for that where you can use the maestro, the alpharette overnight cream, and then also the alpharette pill pads. And then another one that I liked seeing was the chemical pill regimen, which used the maestro and the trio luxe moisturizer afterwards, too.
[00:10:31] Speaker A: Yeah. We had somebody else in the study that I think is doing a chemical pill series. One's doing the collagen pen series, one's doing Scarlet series, and one's doing maybe skin pen series.
So lots of different types of treatments too, to kind of see how they respond with this, these two products. So I'm excited to see the end results from that. And then Brittany stopped by yesterday. My good friend that owns forecast here locally in Homewood, she is doing a hydrinity study. And so Abby came by and brought her the products so that we can track her results and see how she does from the very beginning. She has recently gotten married and her husband is from Birmingham, England. So she spent a lot of time in the last two years on international flights, which as you know, can like wreak havoc on your skin. And she also wasn't being very compliant with a good medical grade skincare line. And so I really just wanted to see what hydrinity could do for her. So she's got the full series. So she came in, we did her base scan, and then I showed her how to use the regimen. We're going to do follow up photos in two weeks, four weeks, and then at three months, and then we're going to track those results and then we'll post all of that after she's finished with her, her study as well. So I'm really excited to show the results from that.
[00:11:55] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm excited to see that too, since we haven't been able to see that with hydrinity in particular.
[00:12:00] Speaker A: Yeah, we haven't had any studies for that personally.
Just we've had the skin butter going on. And then speaking of skincare, we got to spend some time with our besties from color science. Mary Margaret and I got to go to dinner with Jane and Alicia last year. And then this year they were back for scale. And so we went to dinner with the two of them, and Heather Goodchild, who's the VP, who was on one of our previous podcast episodes, and then Mary Fisher, who's CEO of color science. And then we got to have dinner with them. And we had the most incredible dinner and the best conversation. You could not ask for more down to earth, fantastic women to be around. It was so much fun. We had the best time. And that was the one night that we were out till past 10:00 that you didn't try to put me to bed.
[00:12:53] Speaker B: Yeah, that was definitely such a fun night. I had such a pleasure getting to know every single one of them at the table personally, but also in their field and learn a little bit more about their skincare products as well. More in depth.
[00:13:09] Speaker A: Yeah. I was getting to know Mary a little bit better. My mom and I have met Mary several times, and Mary Margaret and I have as well. But that was the first time I've really got to just sit down and really get to know her. I know Heather very well. I know Jane very well.
But it was the first time that I've gotten to just sit down and have some really good quality time with her. And so she was. Heather was sharing with her a little bit of our story and how we got. Got started in the industry. And by the end of it, they were all in tears and asked me if I would share the story with their team, which, of course I would. We love them, but it's just really sweet that they're so down to earth and so involved with their accounts, and they listen to our feedback and they take what we say and they put it into their brand and what they're building out, and they really just truly make you feel like you're a part of their family. So we love them.
[00:14:02] Speaker B: Yeah. We do love them. It was great. Great company.
[00:14:05] Speaker A: Yeah. So also, every year that we go to scale, they have the vendors booths, and so you get to go through all the different vendors and see what all they have. And it's always fun, too, because we know most of the vendors, they're being so close to Alabama and Nashville. Most of our reps are there working this event. And so it's like a big, like, reunion with everybody. It's like a big party with everybody. Yeah. So it's so fun. And I got to see my sweet, sweet friend Sally Gibbs, who was our original clinical trainer from Biora back in the day. And I have not seen her in years, but we have kept in touch, and so I was so excited to be able to see her and Andrea from Sinclair, and so I got to see a lot of my really favorite reps from different companies that I don't get to see anymore. Like, Rhett for Mers was there. He used to be our regional manager, and he got realigned to a different territory. So I was so excited to see him because he's fantastic. We just have so many great reps that you just get excited to see them because they're like, you know, they become friends. They do. They come become, like, close friends. So it's a lot of fun. And Jessica, of course, we went to dinner with her.
She's amazing. I know. I posted on our social media just what a rock star she is. She handles so many things in so many different capacities all by herself. She doesn't have any helpers. She does skinmedica, she does Latisse, she does diamond glow with consumables. She does, you know, all of it. She does every bit of that. And she is just so fabulous with continued education with our staff and staying in touch with us and making sure that we're taken care of. And we just really appreciate her and the whole team from Allergan, and we couldn't do what we do today without all of our amazing reps. And so we just really appreciate all of the hard work that they put in and all the hours that they have to put in to work these events and be there to educate all of us and to show us the different technologies and skincare regimens that are available for us to educate our patients.
So I also, so funny, we were in a group chat with the injectors because they wanted to know what we were learning while we were there, because it's all things that affect them and that they can learn from. And so I was sending them PDF's of the slide deck so that they could learn from what we were able to take away from it and that way they can bring it into practice and learn from it, too. So that was really fun. They were really excited about it. Doctor Eason was in yesterday. She was like going through the different slides with me. She was like, ooh, send me that one, send me that one. And then Doctor Irma was texting me like, lacey, can you send me this one in a PDF? That one didn't go through. I really want to see that. And then I sent Doctor Curl, a friend of mine, the study on the non ablative lasers and chemical pills and how that's preventing skin cancer. Of course, aside from melanoma, it's.
They're doing studies that showing that, and I just think that's so incredible because, like, you would think that maybe in the past, but there's really no evidence for it and now they're finding evidence to prove that. So I think that's so amazing and I think that that's going to change lives for a lot of people, that they can not only get their beauty treatments and look and feel better, but it's going to be, you know, of a huge benefit to them to prevent skin cancer.
[00:17:41] Speaker B: I know. I was sending a bunch of slides to Doctor Jody and Doctor Eason about the liquid BBL techniques and the different shapes and sizes that you can conquer depending on which dilution that you use so I know that they found that interesting. So I'll be like, we'll be. It'll be interesting to be able to do those here soon.
[00:18:02] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm excited to see some of those different treatment techniques and the outcomes that we get with that.
We have some really exciting things coming up. We've got. Doctor Jody is going to be back in clinic after having her precious little baby, so she'll be back June 4. That is also skin Medica's 25th birthday. So we're going to have both of our skin medica representatives there. They're doing some retail stuff with us that day, but they're going to be there as well to help with that event. We're going to be doing 25% off of skin to all of our injectables patients that day. To celebrate skin Medica's 25th birthday. We're going to be having double alley points, which is available through our alley Rewards program with Allergan. We're going to be doing $10 a unit toxin all day that day only, so nine to six, and then we're going to have $50 off a single syringe of ha filler. And then if you do three syringes of ha filler, you're going to get a free TNSA plus, which is a 299 $5 value, plus your double alley points. So we only have, like, one or two spots left. So please call or text the office and let us know if you'd like to make it in that day, because we don't do this very often, so you definitely don't want to miss out on that. And we're going to be celebrating soon. I don't know the details, but I know that MerS is having their 20 year anniversary because Lori stopped by earlier today to let me know. So we're gonna be doing some sort of radiesse, radiesse, hyper dilute birthday celebration for them.
[00:19:37] Speaker B: Oh, that's exciting.
[00:19:38] Speaker A: I know. She's so cute. She stopped by. She was like, I wanted to come by and see you, but I didn't have an excuse, and now I do.
[00:19:46] Speaker B: Lori's adorable.
[00:19:47] Speaker A: She is.
[00:19:48] Speaker B: She's great, too.
[00:19:50] Speaker A: Yeah. And it's funny. The reps that didn't get to do scale this year have all been texting me like, I'm gonna do scale next year. Y'all look like y'all had so much fun, and I know it's always a great conference, and I wanna be a part of that, and I wanna be able to, like, come and learn and see everybody and be a part of what's going on. So it's really fun. It's a good time.
So what are your key takeaways from scale? Would you want to go back?
[00:20:16] Speaker B: Yes, I would. It was a great location, but not only the location. Like you said, you get to meet a lot of different people. I knew some of them, but I got to meet even more. They informed me with more information that expands my knowledge. And it just.
It was very informative in a lot of different areas.
[00:20:39] Speaker A: And you got to meet two CEO's of a company while you were there.
[00:20:42] Speaker B: And you don't get to do that very often. So I felt very, very grateful.
[00:20:47] Speaker A: Yeah.
Well, good. Well, we are so excited about all of the continued education that we learned this past week. It is jam packed full of innovative, new, non biased information.
It is literally hundreds of speakers. Ten minutes talks from 08:00 a.m. in the morning until 506:00 in the afternoon with only an hour lunch break. So lots and lots of information to digest and learn about. And so we will be having lots of brand new things to think about and evaluate and decide what new things we want to be tweaking our current, you know, services that we're doing and what we'll have new coming to Smartskin. We've got lots of new things that we've been working on, and we look forward to bringing that to all of our patients, so.
Well, Peyton, thank you so much for joining me today on this episode of Smartcast, and we'll see you next week.
